Dental Crowns in Lancashire

Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, are prosthetic devices used to cover damaged, cracked or broken down teeth. Often used when a filling is no longer suitable, dental crowns are shaped like natural teeth. They are placed over each necessary tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and appearance. A full range of dental crowns is available at our experienced practice in Garstang, Lancashire.

What are tooth crowns made of?

Crowns can be made from various materials such as porcelain, metal or a combination of both. When applied to the front of the mouth, porcelain ‘tooth-coloured’ crowns are used to blend seamlessly with your adjacent teeth. Crowns placed in the back of your mouth can be crafted from porcelain, metal or a combination of both.

Dental crowns are often used in conjunction with other treatments, such as root canals or dental implants, to allow you to leave our Lancashire practice with a smile that is strong and healthy.

Do I need a tooth crown?

It is important to have a full dental examination before considering a tooth crown. During your first appointment at our Lancashire practice, your dentist will clean and shape your tooth before taking a mould, also known as a dental impression. This impression is sent to our dental laboratory, which will carefully craft your crown over 2-3 weeks. Your dentist will create a temporary crown to cover and protect your tooth during this time. After 2-3 weeks your dental crown will be ready and an appointment will be made to fit your new crown.
